John’s Experience In Brave New World By Aldous Huxley

Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World tells the story of John, a protagonist who feels alienated in every part of society. He feels even more isolated from Malpis, his hometown. He feels alone and is exiled everywhere he goes. He is further isolated and in exile from his home. But, his exile in exile from “civilized” society that he was brought to enriches him with knowledge about the flaws within the World State. Johns’s experiences highlight the importance and injustice of individualism as well as truth.

John was born on the Savage Reservation. His mother was a cruel and unjustly discriminatory for John’s physical appearance. Although she slept with men all her life, her actions as a World State citizen were justified. John suffered as a result. He was even brought to a normal community. He was made visible for the citizens to see, making him feel more alone and unusual. Similar acts only highlighted the differences in John and the rest. Leaving him secluded and aware of societies ugliness.Understanding to the extent of how troubling the World State truly is, he forces himself into exile. John’s actions could be seen as a feeling of real-world mortality. His unique sense of individualism is not imposed by manufactured emotions or thoughts. John is distinguished by his love for shakespeare as well as his desire to live a happy, healthy, and orderly life. He longs for complications in his lives, something no one else wants. John is now in mental isolation. John realizes that he is in a mental and physical exile. He decides to end his life. His individualism was a major factor in his suicide.

John was a character that represented challenge. John was a symbol of challenge. He opposed the freedom granted by an arbitrarily elected government and recognized the limitations of individualism in the World State. His unique knowledge and values were a symbol of the dangers the World State faced. John’s suicide spelled doom for all the efforts to free him.
